Hello and Welcome!
You’ve arrived to the virtual home of Design Psychiatry. My name is Sean Hawkins, and I am a board-certified psychiatrist, or a physician who specializes in mental health. More importantly, I am a human being who aspires to make my corner of the world a better place in whatever ways I can. Design Psychiatry is both the title of my private practice and the name of my personal commitment to providing the highest standard of evidence-based, person-centered psychiatric care in service to the unique qualities, goals and potential of each of my clients.
As of Summer 2026, this website is still in its infancy. For now, its main function is to provide a general overview of my professional background, the services offered by Design Psychiatry, and ways for potential clients to contact me for an introduction. You can find links to pages with these topics in the menu at the top of this page.
In the coming months, I plan to add considerably to this website, including:
- reviews of the mental health related resources that I have found most beneficial for people seeking to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of those around them
- discussions of common areas of confusion and misunderstanding in navigating the modern US healthcare system and in using current psychiatric models of mental health and mental illness
- descriptions of major problems with the current “status quo” of delivery of mental healthcare in the United States
- an outline of the methods that Design Psychiatry’s practice model uses to emphasize core values of transparency, high quality communication, personalized care, clinical depth, and shared decision-making
Whether you are someone seeking mental health support for the first time, a concerned family member with a thousand questions, or a current client of mine tracking down an article we discussed in session, I hope to create a collection of resources where you can find something useful for your situation.
