Credentials & Training
Dr. Sean Hawkins is a board certified psychiatrist with current active medical licenses in Ohio, Michigan and Florida. He completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering from The Ohio State University (2007-2011), medical school at The University of Cincinnati (2013-2017), and a residency in general psychiatry at The University of Florida – Jacksonville (2017-2021), where he served as a Chief Resident for the last two years.
Experience in Psychiatry
After residency, Dr. Hawkins worked as an attending physician at The Cleveland Clinic Akron General (2021-2023), dividing time between inpatient and consultation-liaison hospital services, and serving as a core faculty member of the psychiatry residency program as well as Clinical Assistant Professor for The Northeast Ohio Medical University and The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2023, he transitioned to working with Iris Telehealth, partnering with The DBT Institute of Michigan, serving as attending psychiatrist and then Medical Director for the residential and partial hospitalization programs (2023-2025). Since 2025, he has continued working part-time with Iris Telehealth, where he partners with an integrated case management team with a Community Mental Health agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2026, Dr. Hawkins also launched this private practice, Design Psychiatry, which emphasizes individualized care, personal agency and intentional life design alongside evidence‑based psychiatric treatment.
