Design Psychiatry offers some healthcare advisory services that are not geographically limited. All clinical services that include direct patient-care or that establish a physician-patient relationship (such as therapy or medical services), the client must be in a state where the provider (Dr. Hawkins) is licensed, which include OH, FL and MI. Yes, Design Psychiatry treats clients with various substance abuse issues at various stages of change. However, sometimes it takes more resources than a solo private practice can maintain to treat someone with active addiction to certain substances. Often it is beneficial to engage with a team that has 24/7 call (not available with Design Psychiatry) as well as integration with a larger team that may include nursing, social work/case management, group therapy, peer counseling, a 12 step program, and/or direct admission to a detox unit, residential, partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, or sober living. Yes, Design Psychiatry treats adults of all ages. There are some psychiatrists who have additional specialty training (an additional 1 year fellowship) and choose to focus their practice in Geriatric Psychiatry, with a specialization in the challenges, diagnoses and treatment strategies that come with older age. Unfortunately, there are not close to enough of these psychiatrists to meet the need. Dr. Hawkins, like many general adult psychiatrists, has received extensive training in serving this population in the course of residency and in his professional endeavors since has continued to maintain a diverse clientele that includes older persons. Of note, Design Psychiatry is not credentialled with Medicare, and Superbills cannot be reimbursed by Medicare. However, the additional cost of seeing a private practice psychiatrist and paying “out-of-pocket” may still be worth it for some clients depending on their needs and priorities. One of the most important strategies of an adept psychiatrist treating older persons is providing consistent and quality communication with a wider team that may include family, caretakers, primary care physicians, hospitals, nursing facilities, etc., and the time required for these additional steps of coordination is often not within the budget of a busy practice with reimbursement limited by the restrictions of insurance/Medicare coverage and oversight from a third party healthcare employer.

No, Design Psychiatry does not offer these treatments in-house, though if these interventions are appropriate to consider as part of your treatment, they may be considered as part of a larger care plan. Design Psychiatry can provide you with an extensive discussion/education around the risks, benefits and alternatives of these options. If a client of Design Psychiatry decides to pursue one of these interventions, that client has the option of coordinating a transfer of care elsewhere or being referred out for these while keeping other elements of care (such as therapy and medication management) with Design Psychiatry.

No. Design Psychiatry is not contracted with any insurances.

If you have private insurance (not Medicare or Medicaid), it is possible that you may be partially or fully re-imbursed for your care depending on the details of your insurance policy as it applies to “out-of-network” providers. However, Design Psychiatry does not gaurantee reimbursement from any insurance. Design Psychiatry is not credentialed with Medicare or Medicaid, and visit claims cannot be submitted to these entities for reimbursement.

It depends on the level of support and time requested. The goal of Design Psychiatry is to match each client’s needs and goals with the best level of support for that client’s budget and resources (whether this is through Design Psychiatry or another form of service, from another psychiatric provider or from a different specialty/field entirely). Some people are seeking a single visit for a second opinion or diagnostic clarification, while others may be looking for regular weekly support through a period of intense change. Please see our services page for the costs per visit time. All care plans are individualized and may be revisited at any visit at a client’s request (clients are encouraged to review their goals and progress at each visit). All clients should know where they stand from the first visit with respect to their larger goals, short term objectives, and when and how they can judge progress towards their goals. Although some clients may not have clear goals or objectives when they are first seeking care, it is the shared responsibility of the client and of Design Psychiatry to support the development of these as early steps in treatment.

Yes. Clients are required to keep a credit/debit card on file and to pay at time of delivery of services, including for no-shows or last minute cancellations (see services).

Yes. Design Psychiatry is wholly committed to the highest level of privacy. Information submitted to this practice is viewed by physicians operating under HIPAA with an active medical license only (all information is directly reviewed by Dr. Hawkins or a covering physician for any periods of his absence). With telehealth visits, there are no additional persons involved in any way. There are no additional billing/coding staff, secretaries, receptionists, nursing, medical assistants, etc. The only information submitted to insurance is by clients at their own discretion after their own review of their superbill. These superbills contain intentionally nondescript information for further protection of your privacy. For in person visits (to a shared workspace), there may be other clients as well as a receptionist physically present to greet clients, but this person does not have any access to your records beyond a first name or preferred pseudonym.

Contact forms hosted through SimplePractice transmit information securely to be reviewed directly by Dr. Hawkins according to the website privacy policy. If you become a patient, your information will additionally be governed by Design Psychiatry’s Privacy Policy in accordance with state and federal privacy laws (HIPAA).
